FREEDOM LADY STATUE

Hello everyone! I am sculptor Pankaj Bhargav, and I’m delighted to share the complete journey of creating the Freedom Lady statue, now fully finished and ready to be admired at the circle of JNU Medical College. Standing tall at 8 feet, this artwork symbolizes strength, grace, and the spirit of freedom.

Laying the Foundation

Every great sculpture begins with a strong foundation. For the legs of the statue, we used 8 mm thick iron rods, cut into six lengths and placed 3 inches apart, ensuring durability and balance. The entire frame was then filled with RCC (reinforced concrete), giving the structure long-lasting strength.

Shaping with Anatomical Precision

With the base ready, we moved on to sculpting the form according to accurate anatomical proportions. Slowly and steadily, the figure began to emerge. Each curve and contour was shaped with care to bring realism and depth to the artwork.

Designing the Majestic Wings

One of the most captivating features of the Freedom Lady is her wings. To construct them, we extended 6 mm iron rods about 3 feet outward from the back. The wings—6 feet high and 3.5 feet wide—were created using RCC filled into cardboard molds, giving them both detail and strength. Once set, we refined the wings further to bring out their natural flow and elegance.

Finishing the Expressions and Attire

After completing the drapery and clothing details, we focused on crafting the facial expression, giving the statue a serene, confident look that embodies freedom. These final touches truly bring the sculpture to life.

Symbolism Held in Her Hands

In her hands, the Freedom Lady holds wheat, symbolizing prosperity and abundance. For this, we used GI wire, shaping it carefully to resemble real wheat stalks—an element that adds meaning and grace to the final composition.

The Work is Now Complete

I’m proud to share that the Freedom Lady statue is now fully completed. This journey—from designing the frame to adding the final details—has been a blend of art, engineering, and dedication. It is now ready to inspire everyone who sees it.

Thank you for being a part of this creative journey!
